Membership

Membership fees will remain at to £10 effective from October 1st to September 30th. The membership fees for Junior members or members who are in full time education will remain free although if they require CTC insurance. This has risen to £16. I am also trying to cut costs by sending Newsletters via email. If you have received a “hard copy” that is because I do not have a current email address for you? If you could supply this I would be grateful.

  • The Open TT will run again this year on Sunday 28th April. Eric Greenhalgh will be organising the event again and it will be held on the Fairburn Course. We expect a large entry as it is a recognised 10 mile course (weather permitting). We hope that members will step up and offer their services to marshal.

  • The Road Race “Pete’s Race” will be held on 23rd June on the usual course. John Sycamore will take the role as organiser after doing a superb job the previous years. There will be free entry for all club members

  • A reminder that to ride with the club you will need 3rd party liability insurance.   This can be taken through either:
  • CTC affiliation available through the club at £16 per year running 1st October to 30th September (If you are late with your membership renewal you will not be covered).
  • Private CTC membership
  • British Cycling Silver or Gold membership

If you need further information on this please do not hesitate to contact Andy Morgan club secretary.

Press Secretary

Please contact Mike Brownlow  with any race results that you have achieved and he will publish them in the Pontefract and Castleford Express.

Open Events

At this moment in time we are promoting just the one event this season.

  • Open TT Sunday 28th April.
  • Pete’s Race on 23rd June. The event will be open to Elites/1st/2nd/3rd category riders. 90 miles.

This year’s event will again be undertaken by the race organising committee. Ideally we would like members to volunteer their help well in advance of each event, but if a committee member contacts you asking for help please give them your co-operation.

Club Events

Once again we are promoting a full season of club events on Monday evenings along with the South Elmsall S.C.C. All these events start at 7.00pm and are on the club course starting at the A19 and then to Pollington and back to Heck. Please arrive well before 7.00pm to sign on. Entry fee is £3.00. For Club Juniors entry will be free. Others will pay reduced rate of £2.00 (which is the CTT levy)

10 mile time trial series

15th April to 12th August inclusive, with the exception of Bank Holidays

25 mile TT championship

17th June – Consisting of 3 laps of the usual Monday night course

10 mile TT championship

5th August

10 mile TT and
prize presentation

12th August – Presentation and sandwiches afterwards at the George and Dragon Whitley Bridge

Hill Climb

Possibly last Sunday in September (TBC) – Club run leaves Castleford at the usual time

Dinner Dance and Prize Presentation

This was held at the Kyte Hotel, Darrington. We had another superb evening. I am thinking of booking again for next year. Let me have your feedback?

There are still a number of prizes that require collection. It seems a shame not to have the trophies after all the hard work. These are with John Sycamore at the moment. Arrangements can be made for collection.

Training Runs / “Chaingang”

As usual every Tuesday and Thursday at 5.45pm from Kendell Cycles. The course for the Winter Chaingang will be on the old A1 around Brotherton & Fairburn. The summer gang on the usual loop into the Cols of South Yorks.

Club Runs

Club runs will leave, as usual, at 9:30am from the River Bridge at Castleford on Sunday mornings. Tony Jones will organise a shorter, slightly easier Club run through the summer months for the less fit members, same time and place. Also there is an early ride on Sundays (8am) and Mike Brownlow leads the Wednesday “Café run”. All details on our web page.

Club Clothing

As always club clothing is available at Kendell Cycles. Please direct any enquiries to Gary or Tracy at the shop. All reasonable requests are catered for!

And finally…

I would like to wish you all a successful year. If you have any queries regarding the club please do not hesitate to contact Andy Morgan.
