TOPIC: Road Racing Stories, Pictures and Results

Road Racing Stories, Pictures and Results 9 years 10 months ago #117

Thought a nice little register of any road racing conducted within the club might be an idea. So for those interested.....

Feath @ Eddy Soens 2011, 5th March 2011, Rider: Chris Lawrence
Handicap race over 50 miles.

Cold day, with simply the longest distance in the world between sign on and the course, about 6 miles between aintree and Kirby Leisure Centre. So before anyone starts pointing out the obvious I have been shopping with the xmas money. Time to give them a whirl, so. the 4ths and the jnrs where out for about 5 or 6 (of the 30) laps, before getting pinned back by the 3rds, the 2nds, 1st and Elites cames and the peloton was about 150 strong with 15 laps to go. Onces the Es came on, ahem, the pace was frantic, but kepts in the pack, and even kept on a charging backstedts wheel. 90th position overall but better to have finished than be one of the 20 or so pulled out.

Race Video, some slight footage at c20 seconds, and 40 seconds of the start, and i'm sure the longer range video at 1.15 seconds shows me stamping about.

and to top it all, got to meet Magnus Backstedt. Really nice guy!.

I'll post an image (of proof knowing you doubters) as soon as the site allows - www.featherstoneroadclub.co.uk/index.php...-backstedt&Itemid=25

A big fat "DNF" to report from Seacroft Wheelers spring race, a puncture on the last lap put paid to any hopes of a result. However in reflection, spent more time at the head of affairs than in any other race and felt pretty good all the way around. Even got in a break early on, which whilst wasn't succesfull gave myself a lot of confidence for the remainder of the race. Welcome to Joe Hinchcliffe who joined the racing contigent of the club.

Results from "Yorkshire Day @ The Races" now on the club website, I assume that the mysterious Charles Lawrence is actually Chris??

Andy, yes it's me. In fairness Peter should have scored a point but the commassaires didn't record it.

Not that i want to nit-pick or anything, but the FRC flag has been fluttering in the breeze for a while now, most notably the 5 man FRC team racing in the 16 week, North Midlands Road Race League during 2010, racking up several top 5's, a top 10 nearly every week and one of the riders finishing 6th in the Group B League.

FRC were also one of the better represented teams overall too.

I dont want to nit-pick either son but a TLI isnt a race . If you getting a top 10 place every week then that says all the good riders are racing the BCF events. If I was you son i would take them stabilisers off the bike and enter some proper races like Charles Lawrence has. There are two good races on today the Steve Rigby Memorial road race at Fairburn and the John May Memorial road race at Wakefield. If you get chance why dont you pop along and get an insight into cut and thrust road racing.

I'm glad i represent a club that offers such support for those who are just starting out, thanks!

I witnessed the Steve Rigby from the middle of the bunch.

How was the John May? I'm assuming you entered, being a 1st Cat and all.....

Guys chill out. You're both right just in different ways. The main thing is despite what races you do, or where they are, that you give everything you can at those times, encourage others and take no notice of people that attempt to put you down. Cyclings full of egos and megalomaniacs. If your happy with what you're doing, and how your performing, that's the main thing.

I'm happy to publish any results on the website, regardless of whether you finished in a "place" or even DNF'd.

Please continue to email details of any events or races you've taken part in (Road Races, Time Trials, Mountain Biking, Cyclo-Cross or Duathlons etc) and I'll get them published - that way everyone can see who's racing for the club.

I had a ride out this morning to have a quick look at both the John May and Steve Rigby races - managed to catch a glimpse of a FRC rider chasing down a lone leader at the turn into Ledsham ... just before 10 o'clock so on one of the early laps? Didn't recognise many at the John May when I got to Normie, unfortunately there were a couple of ambulances in the vicinity so let's hope that nobody was hurt - surely that's the main thing!

I'm pretty sure that was me. Unfortunately, it wasn't to last. Still, if you don't ask you don't get.

Shame i dropped my bottle on the second lap and cramped up.
